William John Jones-2/28/2018

REMSEN - William John Jones, 79, of State Route 12, husband of Betty, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at St. Lukeís Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. Bill was born in Utica on October 26, 1938, a son of Hugh I. and Margaret Williams Jones. After he graduated from Remsen Central School, Class of 1957, Bill became a partner with his father in the operation of Trenton Hill Farm, and he was active for many years in the NY Holstein Association and exhibited cattle at county and state fairs. On March 24, 1962, Bill was united in marriage with Betty Schrider of Holland Patent at the First Presbyterian Church, Holland Patent. This was a loving union that endured for nearly 56 years. He later became interested in Welsh Cobs, and was a member and past president of the Northeastern Welsh Pony Association. Bill was a pioneer in the breeding of Welsh Cobs in the U.S. and showed horses in breed classes, as well as pleasure driving for many years. He always had stories to tell and became friends with pony breeders throughout the eastern U.S. and Canada, as well as in Wales. Billís love of horses led him to being one of the founders of the current Barneveld Horsemenís Association, and he was instrumental in the development of the Caernarvon Horse Park. He enjoyed all the activities taking place on the grounds, and was always present to lend support and a hand, especially to young people. Bill was a very loving and proud father of his three daughters. He always en-couraged his daughters to take on the world, be strong and independent. There was never a dull moment and lots of adventures when they were together. Bill was a proud grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was always pondering what mischief they would get into next. Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Jones; his daughters, Melanie and Robert Loveric, Ellen and Larry Hobin, and Katherine and Joshua Graves; seven grandchildren, Rachael (Loveric) and Cory Hurlbut, Trevor and Margaret Koenig, Anna and Ashlynn Hobin, Bryce and Hayden Graves; and one sister and brother-in-law, Angharad and Richard Matt. He was predeceased by his sister Jane and her daughter Priscilla Ernest. Billís family extends a note of sincere thanks to Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the ICU nurses at St. Lukeís for all of the care and compassion they extended to Bill. His funeral was held Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, where calling hours were held Monday from 3-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the services.
